Back on Track

Light fell asleep around 8:30, which gave Kindly and me time to work on what to do with the piece of crystal. It's in the right hands now, so there was nothing to worry about too much. Except for that, we didn't know how to use it, keep it safe, or even what it could do beyond life and death. Being that this was made before the existence of most galaxies from the connection of many Gods.

"So," Kindly started. "What exactly is it?" He turned it in his hand.

"Something we," I hesitated, I was scared to tell him. "Something I've been running from since I died, it's what really gave me my name. When I first died, the psychic medium that has worked with them for years was on call to find me wherever I was. They used the parent of this stone to try and bring me back to life, I've so far, as you can tell, been able to dodge it. But maybe, now that we have it in our own hands, we can keep them away now. And then you won't have to worry about them as I have."

Kindly rested his hand on my leg, his eyes were so soft, and kind, just like him. His smile was slight and sincere. "Yeah, and now that we have each other, and Light, we can possibly live in peace, yeah?" His voice was so strangely persuasive, unlike its usual timid and scared tone. "Maybe with this in hand, we can ever recover our memories."

Neither of us slept that night, figuring out what to do now that we have a part of the crystal in our own hands, how it would benefit us, how it could harm us, and how we could use it. We didn't get far that night, but it was farther than I had ever gotten in the seven years I'd been dead. The next morning we went to the cafe to see Protector. We didn't talk to him much though, he was more focused on Light than anything else.

"Where did you find such an adorable child like this?" Protector incurred, sneaking Light yet another sugary chocolate chip cookie. "I remember, with my small amount of memory left, my niece. She was smart, caring, and so cute, just like you Light. She also had a sweet tooth, just like you!" Light giggled, chowing down on yet another cookie. "So, what's up fellers?" He asked us. "Last time I saw ya'll, you didn't know each other, and now you two adopted a kid? What happened since I saw you guys yesterday?"

"Well, that's why we're here," Kindly responded. "Well, partially, it doesn't exactly correspond with Light, but, you see, well-"

"We came for a different reason that occurred since we last saw you." I cut off Kindly. He nodded in agreement. "We have something of a sort of importance to our situations."

"Before that," Protector gestured to Light. "Can you tell me about her? It's not like you to just create a family when you have so much else to do, Runner."

"Her soul," I started. "Was losing all colour. She's still gaining it, I can't wait to see what it looks like when it's vibrant." Protector's head tilted. "Well, we brought her, well, because-"

"She has no one else," Kindly interrupted. "She said her guardians had lost their souls, so we can't let that happen to her either. That's her story thus far."

"Well, how old is she?" Protector questioned.

"Her file said 12," I responded. "There isn't any statement of how she died, and we haven't yet asked."

Protector's usually smiley and bright bushy face was in an uncharacteristic frown, his bushy eyebrows furrowed. "I feel bad for her." He sat down at a chair at our table. Looking off at Light. "She must have watched her parents lose themselves, that must have been terrifying. Hey, Runner?" I looked over at him. "Do they know what happens to a spirit when they lose their soul yet?" I shook my head. His sunk down into his chest. "Oh, well anyways. What did you want to talk to me about then?"

I don't care about a goal, but it seems better to have this on than to have this off.

I write horror, romance-ish, and sometimes gay books, mainly horror thugh. They're in the first person to seem like you're reading it from the character themself.
