A soul, it's a fragile thing, you need to have faith that it can lead you the right way, but not everyone has the trust in themselves they need.
The description of the spirit was painful to keep reading, I read it so many times nonetheless, she was 12, with bright red firey hair, and golden eyes, but apparently, her colour had been depleting. Her eyes turned to a muddled yellow-brown colour, her hair turned to mud, and her memory was far beyond what it was when she first died. I felt for her, I understood her pain, and she needed help.
"Hello?" I yelled into the apparent cave she had been living in. "Is anyone in there?"
"No!" A small voice yelled back, it sounded like a child talking through tears.
"Okay then," I said advancing into the cave. "If there's no one here I can come in and rest a bit, ain't that right Kindly?"
"Yep," he caught on quickly, lucky me. "We can take a little break here before we go back to looking for our cat."
"No! Wait!" The voice called out from the cave. "There are many other caves you can rest in!"
"But this cave is the best!" Kindly responded. "It's much nicer than the other caves around here, why would we go anywhere else?" He began advancing into the cave, and I followed suit.
"Wait!" She warned. "There is someone here, so you need to leave, okay?" Her voice was shrill and sad.
"But wait," I interjected. "Why would you be in here, shouldn't you be with someone else? A parent or spirit guardian?"
"Uhm, yes," her voice trembled. "But they're gone, and I think I'm gonna be gone too. They turned dark, and-" sniffles echoed through the cave.
"Hey," I kneeled down at the cave opening. "While you're here, can you help us find our cat? I think she would like you, she's new, you see, and so she's scared of us right now. But I think she would be more open to trusting you, what do you think?" Eyes opened from the cave.
"You think she'd like me?" She seemed hopeful about this. Her happiness was of utmost importance, she needs to hold onto herself, and we need to help her. I nodded to her, her eyes widened and a smile spread across her face. "Then let's get her!"
Kindly looked at me with concern, I pulled out my phone and messaged Protector.
"Hey, can I ask you a favour?
Sure Runner, how can I help?
Do you know where I can get a cat?
A cat? What is this for? Are you on a mission?
Yep. We've got her and we need a cat.
Why?
We told her we needed help finding our cat, and she got really excited.
I see, no further questions.
Thanks, Protector."
I told Kindly and the kid to wait at the house while I "put up flyers" around to find her. I got us a beautiful black cat with green eyes. I let her out in the front yard. Bursting in to get help catching her. "Guys!" I screamed through the halls, running around and looking for them. "She's in the yard!" The kid jumped down the stairs, running toward the door to get the kitty. Once me and Kindly came down to the door, she was playing with the kitten. "You found her! Thank goodness, how can we repay you?" I breathed.
"Hm," she thought. "I guess, I don't know what to ask, I know that I'm losing my soul, so there is nothing I can have, or ask for."
"Then if that's the case," I thought about it for a second, I could only think of one thing. "Would you like to stay with us for a while? It would be mighty helpful if you could keep the kitty calm and such."
Her eyes and smile widened, and for a split second, her colour grew ever so brighter. "Yes please!" She jumped up, hugging the new kitty. "Can I name the kitty?" We both nodded. "Can we name her, March?" We each nodded.
"Now for the question of the Millennia," Kindly started. "Do you have a name yet? I know that you've been here for a little longer than me, but I still would like to know." She shook her head. "Alrighty then, well my name is Kindly, and this is Runner." She shook her head.
"I feel like a name that would fit would be," I said, turning my head into the house, my rose petals were scattered along the floor, their translucent marble of black and white glowing against the ground. "Light, that's a cute name, right?" Her head flew up and down as if headbanging to a slow metal song. "Great, if you'd like, you can live with us Light." Her smile returned along with more of her colour, she was on her way back to a healthy soul.
